Every digital media enthusiast has touted Web 2.0 for the past 12-months. However, the biggest new development in the Internet has turned out to be a load of false propaganda.
The invention of YouTube, interactive websites and blogging drove the industry to create the biggest web buzzword since "internet". According to Hitwise the phenomenon is yet to be fully utilised and get users engaged.
It has been found that only 0.16% of YouTube visitors actually upload video content and Flickr, the photo sharing website, reaching up to 0.2% of users. The discovery shows that people are as passive online as they are in front of the television.
However, it is argued that the number of hits these websites has increased dramatically over the past 2 years and these are by no means sobering for the industry. Like podcasting, the development and interaction of new technologies takes time.
