In the States, Warner is offering movie collection salvation for those that backed the losing format in the recent high-def disc war.

The studio, that backed the Toshiba-led HD DVD format until it u-turned to Blu-ray in January 2008, is offering a kind of amnesty promotion for old HD DVDs.

Via its online "Red2Blu" store, American consumers can get discounted Blu-ray versions of the HD DVDs they splashed out for way back when.

Warner is asking customers to send in their original HD DVD cover sleeve and then for $4.95 per title, consumers will be sent back a disc of the correct colour within 5 weeks.

We've contacted Warner in the UK to see if they are planning to offer a similar scheme here, but they've yet to get back to us.
