Virgin Media has thrown down the tariff gauntlet by unveiling a new monthly payment scheme that means mobile web browsers can get surfing without fear of being stung in their monthly bills.

For £21 a month Virgin Media customers can purchase the "Premiere" tariff that entitles them to as much data as they like, unlimited text messages, unlimited calls to UK landlines and up to 2,500 to other mobile networks, though tethering is not supported.

As well as the all-you-can-eat data incentive, the Premiere tariff will also entitle customers to free mobile phone insurance should they lose or have their phone stolen, while each customer who purchases the tariff will be entitled to Mobile Rescue, which backs up all your contacts, as well as enabling customers to lock and locate their handset remotely.

All Virgin Media smartphones come preloaded with the "My Account" app that lets customers see how much they have spent in terms of minutes and data, though as Virgin Media is promising unlimited data, you won’t need to concern yourself too much.
