The battle between Blu-ray and HD DVD is far from over, however the Blu-ray camp is claiming a small victory following the publication of sales figures provided by trade mag Home Media Magazine.

According to the magazine of the high-definition discs bought by consumers so far this year, 70% were in the Blu-ray Disc format and 30% were HD DVD.

After a slow start, it seems Blu-ray's percentage of total sales accelerated to the point where it accounted for nearly three out of every four high-definition discs sold in March the magazine has reported.

From January 1-March 31, consumers in the US bought almost 1.2 million high-definition discs - 832,530 Blu-ray units and 359,300 HD DVDs - according to Home Media Magazine.

The success is thought to be down to the studios, three of which are exclusive to Blu-ray. Additionally the launch of Casino Royale, a Blu-ray only title which has sold over 100,000 copyies according to Sony has thought to have been a key factor in boosting sales further.
