It looks like Sony will be following the lead of Microsoft in making its own original programming. While competing with Steven Spielberg’s Halo series is going to be tough, Sony could do very well indeed. The idea of an Uncharted movie or series has us excited.

At the moment the original series comes as a leak through one of Sony’s advertiser sites. “From the #1 studio worldwide, Sony Pictures, comes a series of original shows ranging from comedy to reality to sports,” the blurb reads. “PlayStation Productions is dedicated to bringing high-quality, professionally produced content to the PlayStation Network. Sponsorship and product integration opportunities are available upon request.”

Sony has already hinted at this direction when CEO Michael Lynton talked about it at E3. We were told to expect an announcement “in the near future”. Hopefully, now this leak has appeared online, the announcement will follow shortly.

While Netflix, Lovefilm and Amazon are already producing original content this will be the first time for Sony. Although Sony Entertainment, of course, is well established as a film production studios so we have very high hopes for what’s coming. Imagine a TV show or film based on the, until recently, PlayStation-exclusive Metal Gear Solid series? We’d buy a PS4 for that alone.
