Sony has announced the UK prices of its latest 4K Ultra-High Definition televisions and they are surprisingly affordable.

The Sony Bravia X9 55-inch will set you back £3,999, while the 65-inch version will be £5,999. Considering that Samsung's flagship 55C8000 LED TV, one of the first 3D-ready sets on the market, cost well over £3,000 on its launch in 2010, a 4K TV at the same screen size for little extra represents a bold statement by Sony.

Both sizes of X9 will be in UK stores mid-June and pre-orders are being accepted online now.

The Sony Bravia X9 TVs feature 4K video upscaling through the 4K X-Reality Pro picture processing engine, as there are few native sources for 4K content as yet. They also come with a proprietary Triluminos LED display and are passive 3D-ready with multiplayer gaming on the same screen. Magnetic Fluid speaker technology provides the audio through two 12W and two 20W drivers.

Each of the TVs can hook up to an NFC-capable smartphone at just a touch, in order to stream content. And Android and iOS apps are available to browse TV schedules and record shows remotely.
