Sky is to make their digiboxes greener this year, with an update that will be rolled out to all customers by July.

The software update, that has already been downloaded to some models, will see the boxes capable of going into auto-standby during the day as well as at night.

Boxes that have not been used for 4 hours during the day will now display a warning message and then go into standby while the auto-standby feature will continue to activate after 2 hours during the night.

The update should be rolled out to all 9 million Sky TV homes by July, in a move that Sky estimates will reduce Sky's carbon footprint by 90,000 tonnes and save customers an estimated £20 million each year on reduced energy bills.
