Sky has announced a new channel, Sky Sports 5, which will be its first that is dedicated to airing European football.

The announcement, which comes ahead of the World Cup, states that Sky Sports 5 will air up to 600 live European football matches next season.

This will be Sky Sport's seventh channel and is set to be the home of European Qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Coppa Italia and Copa del Rey. There will also be live coverage of Holland's top division Eredivisie.

Sky customers will be able to register for Sky Sports 5 from 12 June using the red button, online or by calling Sky. It will also be coming to Now TV soon after launch.
