Panasonic have launched the world's first portable Blu-ray Disc player at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Going under the model number DMP-B15, some may raise an eyebrow at the point of a portable Blu-ray player. It comes equipped with a WSVGA 8.9-inch screen for watching those movies on the move, but features an HDMI for hooking up to an HDTV for the full fat high-definition experience.

The DMP-B15 will, as do other players in the Panasonic line-up, benefit from VIERA CAST, allowing BD-Live functionality and access to online content, such as Amazon’s video on demand service, YouTube, Picasa and so on. An SD card slot is also present for the playback of media such as camcorder videos or digital photos.

Panasonic are citing a battery life of 3 hours for the device.

It will be available in May, but no details of UK launch or prices.
