Netflix has released an app for the Windows 8 platform that will integrate a touchscreen interface for any compatible laptops, notebooks and desktop PCs.

Films and TV series can be selected by simply pressing on the corresponding panel, while menus can be summoned and dismissed with a swipe of the finger.

The tiling system used by Netflix will tie in nicely with Microsoft’s own Windows 8 user interface. Of course should you not have a touchscreen PC or laptop, the Windows 8 Netflix app will work with a traditional keyboard and mouse, but it’s another indication of the path down which Microsoft and its Windows 8 app developers are heading.

The Netflix app is already sitting in the Windows 8 Marketplace, meaning folk who have been lucky enough to get hold of a preview version of the Windows 8 operating system can have a look at it before the general release on 26 October.
