Rhapsody owned Napster announced that the company is extending its music streaming reach into the living room through a new free app on LG's Smart TV line.

The Napster app, available for download from the Premium Apps card on 2012 LG Smart TVs, gives users the option to listen to pre-programmed radio channels, 17 million singles, and access to Napster charts and recommendations for finding new music. Additionally, Napster is making available its "artist radio" feature that builds playlist matching the user's taste.

“We are extremely proud of our award-winning Smart TV platform and the volume and quality of apps that we can offer," said Darren Petersen, senior content & services manager of LG UK. "We are delighted to add Napster to our already impressive portfolio, allowing customers to enjoy its varied catalogue of music."

Napster will require an Unlimited plus Mobile subscription to access the service from a television, costing £10 a month. New users are offered a 30-day free trial. 

Over the past year, TV manufacturers have raced to add more and more apps to their line of smart TVs. Napster is also available on Xbox 360.

LG's app catalogue includes Acetrax Movies, LOVEFiLM, Netflix, Eurosport, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube.
