Humax says it is in the final stages of testing an update that should ensure all 24 of BBC’s live Olympic coverage channels can be recorded with the company’s Freesat boxes.

Customers had complained that the Humax Foxsat-HDR Freesat box had failed to record coverage from the BBC’s temporary channels set up to broadcast the London 2012 Olympic Games.

With some events commencing on the Tuesday before Friday 27 July’s opening ceremony, some Freesat customers were unable to retrieve the coverage they had set to record.

This issue was later realised to have occurred only with Humax’s one UK Freesat box, the Foxsat-HDR.

However, after initially saying an update to fix the issue wouldn’t be available until “early next week”, a week into the Games, Humax has published a statement on its Facebook page to suggest it might actually be sooner:

“We've been working on a fix around the recording for the extra Olympic channels on Freesat and have developed a software update. Early tests indicate this is working correctly and it is looking positive that we can get this fixed" it says. "Testing continues this afternoon and we will post here as soon as we know when we can make the software available”

The problem has arisen because the BBC has created 24 dedicated HD channels allowing fans of the Games to catch all the action as it happens.

With the opening ceremony to London 2012 just hours away (at the time of writing) Humax is in a race against the clock. Which is rather apt really.

UPDATE 30 July: The London 2012 Olympic Games may have already begun but at least Humax has finally fixed the issue that saw it's Freesat boxes unable to record the new BBC Olympic channels. @Freesat tweeted:

"Great news! Humax has a fix for the recording bug. Software update has been sent to boxes via an OAD"

However, the over-the-air update will only be available from 3am on Tuesday 31 July, though a manual update can be done before then by going to the box's menu and then setup, software update and selecting automatic update.
