Google introduced Chromecast with three free months of Netflix to entice consumers, but now the company has decided to pull the plug on its promotional deal after just one day.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Time, Google said the Netflix promotion was initially available only in limited quantities and has now ended "due to overwhelming demand for Chromecast devices since launch".
Netflix costs $23.97 (£15) for three months, and its promotional deal with Chromecast was available to both new and current Netflix subscribers, whereas Google's beam-video-from-device-to-TV dongle, which released on Wednesday, costs $35.
The Netflix promotion clearly drove sales, as the Chromecast went on backorder on Google Play store by three-to-four weeks an hour after launch. Both Amazon.com and BestBuy.com also sold out of the device on Thursday.
