Freeview today announced that sales of Freeview-enabled digital boxes and digital televisions have passed the 10 million mark.
Launched in October 2002, the successful free-to-air digital television service is now in 6.4 million homes, almost as many as Sky.
Ilse Howling, Freeview General Manager commented: “We're very excited to confirm Freeview's continuing success, proving it to be a compelling and simple route to digital TV".
Freeview is a simple, affordable way of getting digital TV, offering over 30 digital TV channels as well as over 20 digital radio stations for a one-off cost with no contract.
Freeview-enabled digital boxes can be purchased from as little as £40 from electrical retailers, supermarkets and most high-street department stores.
Celebrities from leading TV channels including Gemma Atkinson from Hollyoaks on E4, Bob the Builder from CBeebies, Emma Crosby from Sky News and Holly Willoughby from ITV's Dancing on Ice joined together to celebrate the 10 millionth sale in store this week.
