(Pocket-lint) - Dolby and Odeon have partnered to build the UK's first Dolby Cinema.

Cited at Odeon Leicester Square in London, the Dolby Cinema is part of the 11-month refurbishment of the flagship Luxe multiscreen theatre that will open its doors to the public again this Christmas.

The main screen of five features Dolby Cinema technology, fed by a Dolby Vision dual laser projection system and Dolby Atmos moving audio. It doesn't matter which of the 800 Odeon Luxe seats you sit in, you will get an immersive audio experience.

The other screens have also been fully refurbished to offer more comfortable viewing experiences, albeit without the entire Dolby Cinema specification.

While the Odeon Leicester Square is the first Dolby Cinema in the UK it won't be the last. Odeon and Dolby have partnered to bring the same tech and experience to a further seven theatres around the UK in the coming years.

"This installation represents the first opportunity for British film goers to experience the unparalleled magic that Dolby Cinema offers," said Dolby's Doug Darrow.

"Our technology is recognised as delivering the most faithful experience of filmmakers' creative intent. This partnership with Odeon is a significant milestone for Dolby as we strive to extend spectacular experiences to moviegoers in the UK and around the world."
