The BBC is to make some of its most popular TV shows available for download with a new video download service developed by Azureus.

The P2P video service, code named Zudeo, is different from other video download sites because its swift upload and download speeds mean that it can offer high-resolution video.

BBC Worldwide will license TV series to US users of the service for the first time legally. Shows that will be on offer will include Red Dwarf, Invasion Earth, Little Britain, Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, and League of Gentleman.

Content is expected to be available on Zudeo at the beginning of next year, but pricing has not yet been announced.

“We are very excited to partner with Azureus and make our content available through this revolutionary distribution model”, said Beth Clearfield, Vice President, Program Management and Digital Media, BBC Worldwide.

“We want to ensure that our most popular content – as well as programs that have rarely been seen in the territory – are part of the latest dynamic entertainment environment and can reach the largest audience possible.”
