The BBC Trust has approved downloads of radio content from the BBC iPlayer Radio later this year.

The tweet announcing the downloads came from @BBCiPlayerRadio clarifying that the download service, mentioned years back, is finally nearly here.

Pocket-lint reported on the BBC bringing downloads to the iPlayer Radio back in May 2013. After plenty of red tape and software developments it looks like the BBC is finally ready to start allowing users to listen to its radio content offline. This will be great news for those with limited data or long underground journeys who enjoy BBC Radio.

The BBC iPlayer Radio should work much the same way as iPlayer does for video downloads. That will mean access for a limited number of days from the time of download. How long that is remains to be seen but it's likely to be similar to the original video limited of 30 days.

Expect to hear more from the BBC on iPlayer Radio downloads soon.
