There's a new Sherlock trailer available for season three - and it is completely interactive.

The BBC has already announced 1 January 2014 as the start  of the latest season of Sherlock in the UK. The show will be broadcast in the US on PBS three weeks later. To get viewers reacquainted with the show's characters and excited for its upcoming premiere - especially because the last season ended roughly two years ago, the BBC has released a new and engaging trailer.

The trailer stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. It delicately teases some of the new season's plot lines, one of which includes Watson leaving Baker Street to move on with his life after Sherlock fakes his own death. There's also a mysterious danger lurking, of course.

Beyond giving you a minute-long preview of the first episode, The Empty Hearse, the interactive trailer also features many links that hover over the main footage. Once clicked, they open up new images, extra footage, etc. You'll also see more cast appearances from actors Mark Gatiss, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves Louise Brealey and others.

If you want even more interactive Sherlock goodness, grab the latest issue of Empire on iPad. It has a 360-degree tour - complete with audio - of 221B Baker Street. A preview of that magazine feature is above, courtesy of Empire's Instagram.
