Just when you thought technology boffins had reached the limits of high-definition, Sharp pulls out a prototype LCD with a 4096 x 2160 resolution.

That’s quite a leap up from 1080p, and should be very impressive, especially since they packed it into a 65-inch screen.

Sharp is apparently targeting film producers and those in the medical field, so no guesses as to whether it’ll ever filter down to the high street.

Because the screen has such extreme high-definition, it’s able to display four different boxes each showing regular high-definition images.

Sharp was also showing of a prototype for a screen that features Mega Contrast of a million to one contrast ration; compare this to a typical HDTV that can only manage 1200:1 contrast ratio.
