Pace Micro Technology has today announced the launch of a high definition (HD) free-to-air satellite set-top box meaning footie fans won't have to sign up to Sky or Telewests' services to get the BBC HD football matches.

However, there is a catch.

Pace is keen to point out that to get the HD signal keen viewers will have to move their satellite dish to point to the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees or 28.2 degrees (with BBC HD satellite programming only available on the latter feed) and of course a HD-Ready television set to watch the content.

UK customers keen to get the HD signal in this roundabout sort of way, can buy the HD set-top box directly from Pace at or via their local independent retailer.

The Pace HD box will retail around £299.
