TiVo has announced that it will begin testing a feature that will allow subscribers to transfer recorded television programmes to their iPod or PSP so they can take and view content on the move.
The feature, which could be available to "stand-alone" TiVo Series2 subscribers as early at the new year, will mean that transferring content to handheld devices will be easier than ever.
Although big in America, TiVo has been slow to take off in the UK, due to heavy market dominance by Sky and more generic PVRs from other companies.
The company has said that the files will be watermarked and traceable to originating computers in order to discourage piracy.
"The increasing popularity of mobile devices for viewing video such as Apple's iPod and the PSP device demonstrate the enormous consumer demand for entertainment on the go", TiVo CEO Tom Rogers said in a statement.
However, it appears that existing TiVo customers from DirecTV Group will not have access to the new features.
