BT is offering new customers who sign up to its Infinity Broadband package a free YouView set top box worth £299.

With no subscription fee, customers will be able to enjoy more than 100 digital TV and Radio stations and access seven days of catch-up TV from the likes of BBC, ITV, 4OD and Demand5 via the YouView Humax box.

In addition customers will also be able to watch more than 5,000 programmes and movies on-demand through BT Access, while 500GB of hard drive space should be able to store 300 hours of SD TV or up to 125 hours of HD TV, according to BT.

New BT customers can pre-register now, though they won’t get the free YouView box until 26 October. There’s also a caveat in customers must sign up to a minimum 12-month term, pay a £49 activation charge and a £6.95 delivery charge.

Should you find yourself outside of a BT Infinity-enabled area, customers will still be able to take advantage of the free YouView box offer by subscribing to a TV Essential package which starts at £4 a month.

Existing BT customers can also upgrade to receive a free YouView box by shelling out the same activation and delivery costs as new customers. However, they must be approaching the end of their current contract in order to do so.

BT’s offer rivals that of TalkTalk’s which again offers a free YouView set top box when customers sign up to TalkTalk Plus at £14.50 a month with a £9.50 per month line rental. This includes unlimited downloads and calls to other UK landlines.
