Packard Bell has joined the TV party, or certainly knocked on its door, with the launch of the Studio ST external HDD. On paper, it may just be a USB storage and auto-backup facility in 500GB - 2TB sizes, but factor in the HDMI port, the 1080p output, good looks and remote control and you've basically got yourself a set top box.

It plays "all versions of most common file types" - we'll take Packard Bell's word for it - through a purpose-built GUI, it supports Dolby Digital decoding and it comes with all your cables, including the HDMI, in the box. Just a shame it's not USB 3.0 compatible but, then, who's computer is at the moment anyway?

No prices and dates as yet, but don't expect that shiny black finish to come cheap nor that "free" HDMI cable either.
