Samsung has squashed rumours that we may not be seeing a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch until August, by confirming that the svelte tablet will go on sale in New York City on 8 June.

And, if you think that New York City itself is a very specific place to launch a new product then consider this - it's only going on sale in one shop; the Best Buy Union Square.

Calm down though fandroids, as it's not all bad news. You can pre-order from that date too, and it will go on sale nationwide through Best Buy (online and in-store), Fry’s Electronics, Amazon, Micro Center, Tiger Direct and Newegg on 17 June.

The 10.1 Wi-Fi tab is priced at $499 for the 16GB and $599 for the 32GB version. There's still no news on the 8.9 yet, or indeed any UK release details.

Samsung has used the 10.1 launch to reveal the results of a study into tablets as well. It found that 90 per cent of US consumers either already own a tablet or would consider buying one and that 53 per cent of people would choose to use their mobile tablet to play games instead of on a PC or standalone video game console.
