Amazon, Dixons and Carphone Warehouse are offering huge discounts on the Samsung Galaxy Tab in the run up to Christmas.

The 16GB standalone (SIM-free) version is now £469 on both and, with free delivery. And it's also being offered by Carphone Warehouse for £489.99 with a free upgrade to 32GB.

That means that, since its launch in September, it has shed over £300 off its initial recommended retail price, and is now cheaper than the equivalent 16GB + 3G iPad (which is £529). But then, the iPad does have a 10-inch screen.

Obviously, this is somewhat of a blow to Samsung, as it sends out the message that sales have been slow in the couple of months since launch. However, with the massive savings, it may just hit the million sales before the end of 2010 target that the company was predicting.

And, in Pocket-lint's experience, this is just a test of the market for the Korean manufacturer, who will come back stronger with further Galaxy Tabs in the new year. After all, Samsung was the first to release a Blu-ray player in the UK (the £1000 BDP-1000), and look how saturated, and affordable, that sector has now become.
