We got to play with the world's first 4K tablet at CES but didn't think we'd see it on sale after hearing nothing about it for a while. Now Panasonic says it will be selling the 4K Toughpad for $6,000 (£,3773).

The Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 has a huge 20-inch screen capable of outputting an eye-watering 3840 x 2560 resolution (230 ppi). Behind that is Intel Core i5 processing power backed by the Nvidia GeForce 745M GPU. It will come running Windows 8.1 Pro with a 256MB SSD, 8GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM. Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi and an SDXC card slot all make it well connected. It also comes with a 1280 x 720 resolution camera - but we dread to think of people using this screen as a camera.

The Toughpad is exactly that, being resistant to up to a 12-inch drop at 26 different angles (when turned off) and up to a 30-inch drop to its back (when on). The battery will give you a puny two hours before giving out. But you probably won't be lugging the 2.3kg slate around with you for too long anyway.

UK pricing and release date have not been announced yet.
