Motorola Xoom tablet finally official
The worst kept secret in tech has been revealed with the official CES unveiling of the Motorola Xoom - the world's first Android 3.0 tablet.
Originally shown off by Google's Andy Rubin back at the beginning of December, the Nvida Tegra 2 dual-core powered 10.1-incher could well be the first serious contender for the iPad's tablet (sorry Galaxy Tab fans but it just isn't happening).
The Xoom has a Gig of RAM and a 1280x800 display, so is capable of 720p playback, but it can also beam 1080p to your HDTV using the HDMI-out or its DNLA connectivity.
There are two camera on board, a 2-megapixel front-facing webcam and a rear-facing 5-megapixel offering that can also shoot HD video.
Connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi and 3G and it is also 4G upgradable as well. It features a built-in gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer and adaptive lighting for new types of applications.
“Light, powerful and fundamentally different than anything else on the market, Motorola Xoom leverages the very best technology available today to redefine what a tablet experience can be,” said Bill Ogle, chief marketing officer of Motorola Mobility. “The first device to feature software designed specifically for tablets, Motorola Xoom goes everywhere you do and delivers everything you need.”
It's due for a Q1 release in the States
