Google has used a lead picture on its official Google I/O webpage that has some speculating that the company may have teased the next Nexus device.
The image shows a tablet being used with Google's Chrome experimentation game Racer and although it seems about the right size, it has a different design aesthetic to the Nexus 7.
That has lead Slashgear, amongst others, to mull over the possibility that it could be the much-rumoured HTC-made Nexus 8. Thanks to a posted Android 4.3.3 changelist, it is believed that HTC is the manufacturer of the Nexus device codenamed "Flounder" and that is believed to be the Nexus 8 tablet.
One clue to the assumption that the pictured device could be manufactured by HTC is that the design aesthetic, with the front facing speaker grille and rounded corners, is similar to the HTC Flyer tablet released in 2011. To our eyes, it certainly looks familiar.
There is also a suggestion that it is a Photoshopped and slightly shrunk Samsung-made Nexus 10, which also has front-facing speaker grilles. But the sides of the Nexus 10 are slightly more bulbous we feel that the device in the Google I/O image.
Either way we shall soon find out, as Google's event and possible reveal will start on 25 June. Pocket-lint will bring you all the news as it happens.
