Whilst RIM's big rival was making a big song and dance about its latest OS updates over in California, the Canadian manufacturer quietly released details of a fresh new version of its tablet OS - using its blog to announce BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5.

Unlike iOS 5, this isn't a full refresh - simply a minor tweak of the new tablet's on board software; but it does bring with it some useful additions, most notably in the Facebook domain.

Within the Facebook app (the first dedicated official Facebook tablet app, remember) you can now upload videos (shot from your PlayBook or elsewhere), access your pages easier, delete messages posted by mistake (handy after a drunken night) and you'll also now have access to direct album uploading for your photos and an improved search function.

Away from Facebook (sorry Mark) and BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5 adds in-app payments, additional language support (including that most obscure of languages - UK English), TURN video chat support, improved Wi-Fi detection and a volume boost for your headset.

All new PlayBooks will come loaded with 1.0.5, existing users will get an update notification on the BlackBerry PlayBook status ribbon, or they can go through the settings menu to "Software Updates". It's available now.
