Apple is expected to unveil the iPad Air 2 on 16 October, according to rumours. Until now very few details have leaked.

According to a report, created from sources inside Apple, the new iPad Air 2 will use a different screen manufacturing technique to thin down the tablet. The display should be a fully laminated screen meaning the LCD and glass are a single piece, like on the iPhones. This process should result in the thinnest iPad yet.

The iPad Air 2 is apparently 0.5mm thinner than its predecessor – which Apple is rumoured to be marketing as the thinnest tablet on the market.

Smaller changes include removal of the mute/vibration button to make the tablet thinner. The speakers are now reportedly in one place with larger drilled holes while the volume rockers are supposed to be more inset.

The front facing camera is reportedly getting updated to a FaceTime HD camera capable of recording 720p video. Storage options may only be 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with no more 16GB model. It should also feature the latest A8 processor.

Touch ID and Apple Pay are also expected to come on the new iPad, meaning it should have NFC. Although Apple Pay isn't expected to be up and running until early next year.

The same source that came up with all this hasn't mentioned the rumoured iPad Pro with 12.9-inch screen.
