In past years, Apple would have announced a new iPad by now, ready for release in the UK market for the summer, but that particular cycle was changed last October when the company revealed the iPad mini and a rapid update to its Retina display iPad.

Instead, we have been treated to countless rumours and speculative suggestions about prospective new Apple tablet devices, and the latest has popped up in the form of a professional looking render.

Dutch website MobiLeaks claims that a tipster created a render to show what the iPad mini 2 will look like based on leaked specifications. According to the site's source, they include a similar screen size to the first mini tablet, 7.9-inches, but with the much-rumoured Retina display as part of the make-up.

The display will therefore be 2048 x 1536 pixels (324ppi). The iPad mini 2, it is claimed, will also have an 8-megapixel camera on the rear and 2-megapixel on the front. It will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB flavours and be just 7.5mm thick. That's slightly bigger than the current model, which is 0.3mm thinner.

By the look of the render, the device will actually be smaller because the same screen size goes closer to the edges. Other than that, there's little we haven't heard before.

One interesting piece of information gleaned by MobiLeaks though, centres on the processor. Many believe the Apple A6X processor found in the fourth-generation iPad will be in the iPad mini 2 too, but the Dutch site says that its tipster is not so sure. The source claims that Apple will be tempted to use the new A7 chip instead.

Considering that it is highly unlikely Apple will announce a new device at WWDC in June, it can be taken that we'll have to wait until Q3 before any of these rumours can be confirmed or debunked. We certainly haven't heard the last of them.
