Amazon will launch the Kindle Fire in the UK in January in the UK according to sources close to the launch.

The news means the new Android powered tablet from Amazon, that was launched in November in the US, will miss the all important UK Christmas shopping season, however if the claim is correct would be sooner than many had expected the launch to happen.

“Amazon will be bringing the Kindle Fire to the UK, a source close to the launch has informed us,” claims mobile phone website Know Your Mobile.

The site suggests that the new Kindle tablet will be launching in “January 2012”.

Sadly the source hasn’t given any other information as to when, or what the price will be.

The Amazon Kindle is the company’s answer to the Apple iPad, however at half the price in the US it has supposedly been selling like hot cakes - Amazon refuses to give any specific numbers.

Amazon wasn’t available for comment.
