Archos has unveiled the new ChefPad, which it's marketing to your inner gourmet cooking abilities.

On the inside, the ChefPad for the most part is a normal tablet. You'll find a 9.7-inch 1024x768 capacitive screen, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 8GB internal storage with expandable MicroSD slot, 2-megapixel front and rear cameras, Wi-Fi, and mini HDMI - running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the normal Google Play access. On the outside is where the kitchen aspect comes into play.

Archos has included a silicone case which it brags is spill-proof against water and food, something chefs are constantly battling in the kitchen. Furthermore, you'll be able to adjust the stand for the best viewing angle while cooking. We think it's a great idea, giving the feel of the classic cookbook, something you're probably used to seeing in your parents' kitchen.

Even though you'll have access to the wide array of cooking apps available on Google Play, Archos has included a "Chef's Apps" selection to give you access to a curated list of apps from categories including recipes, drinks, shopping, cooking TV and more.

While this doesn't sound like a Nexus 10 or iPad-killer, the price certainly gets our attention. Archos says the ChefPad will be available starting in June for $209.99 (£137.50) from its online store. At that price, we have to say, this wouldn't be too shabby a device just to keep in your kitchen.

Archos's offering reminds us a lot of the Qooq, a dual-core tablet that runs on Linux as its operating system, but its software was designed entirely in-house. It provides access to 3,500 recipes from 100 different chefs, with 1,200 of those presented as videos.
