Shazam for iPad and Android has been updated. The new-look app has a totally redesigned home screen which makes navigating the whole Shazam experience that much easier.

It also looks a lot slicker than previous Shazam offerings on tablets, with a better layout for album artwork and track names. Shazam tag results for TV and Music have been changed with a different look. Friends' tags are now also easily browsable.

Music tagging is now location based, so you can zoom around the app's interactive map and see what people are listening to and where. Shazam says the listening habits are browsable by country, state, city and even towns in some cases.

New-look friends features include the ability to quickly preview and comment on music your contacts have tagged. The idea is that it helps you quickly to collate new music according to the listening habits around you.

Shazam celebrates the 300 million user mark with this release: the app is one of the all-time classic iOS downloads, launching alongside the App Store itself in 2008.

The update hasn't been launched yet, with release planned in the coming weeks, though Shazam hasn't specified the exact date.
