Amazon has successfully acquired MGM in an $8.45 billion (£6.44b) deal. That includes the entire Bond franchise.

First announced in May 2021, the buyout was subject to regulatory approval and neither US nor EU regulators have opposed the deal.

It means Amazon Prime Video now has access to an enormous catalogue of past and future films.

As well as a library of over 4,000 movies, many of which modern classics, it includes the Bond franchise and the latest outing for 007, No Time to Die.

Other recent movies are now owned by Amazon too, including The Addams Family 2 and House of Gucci.

MGM is also the studio behind many Oscar winners, such as Silence of the Lambs, Raging Bull, Thelma & Louise, 12 Angry Men, and Poltergeist.

The deal won't include some of the studio's most loved oldies however, with the likes of The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain having been previously acquired by Ted Turner and Warner Media.

"MGM has a nearly century-long legacy of producing exceptional entertainment, and we share their commitment to delivering a broad slate of original films and television shows to a global audience," said Prime Video's senior vice president, Mike Hopkins.

"We welcome MGM employees, creators, and talent to Prime Video and Amazon Studios, and we look forward to working together to create even more opportunities to deliver quality storytelling to our customers."
