You're looking at the TCL 10 Pro, one of three phones - there's the 10L, 10 Pro and 10 5G - that's set to launch in Europe, bringing curved screen delights at a not-so-high price point.

Our quick take

FORAGAINST

We had previously seen these devices at CES 2020, but following the cancellation of Mobile World Congress 2020, TCL chose to delay its official unveiling, as the company attempts to make a name for itself in the smartphone world.

We say 'make a name for itself' because while the company has been manufacturing phones for a while now, it only started selling devices with its own brand name in western markets in 2019. Before that, it made phones with other companies; like BlackBerry, Alcatel and Palm

The TCL Plex was the maker's very first TCL-stamped mobile device, and the 10 series continues on from where that promising device left off.

All three TCL 10 devices share similarities, such as the multiple cameras being lined up horizontally across the back. All also feature a curved glass AMOLED display - which is made by the company itself (not an Samsung import as is typical).

TCL wasn't forthcoming about the specs when we first saw the phones back in January, but now there's a full specification to tempt you. Here's the overview:

  • TCL 10L spec overview:
    • Quad rear cameras: 48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, 2MP depth sensor
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage
    • 6.53-inch LCD display, 1080 x 2340 resolution
    • 4000mAh battery, USB-C charging
    • Rear fingerprint scanner
  • TCL 10 Pro spec overview:
    • Quad rear cameras: 64MP main, 16MP ultra-wide, 5MP low-light/video, 2MP macro/depth
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage
    • 6.47-inch AMOLED display, 1080 x 2340 resolution
    • 4500mAh battery, QuickCharge 3.0
    • In-screen fingerprint scanner

The phones all use displays made by TCL itself, with the 10 Pro sporting the manufacturer's 'Edge AMOLED display', which curves towards the edges, creating an edge-to-edge look. The only thing encroaching on its space is a tiny dewdrop notch at the top.

Two of the phones - the 10L and 10 5G - have a physical fingerprint sensor on the back, while the 10 Pro doesn't. It will have an in-display fingerprint reader.

The 5G model is said to use the newly announced 7-series 5G processor - more than likely going to be the Snapdragon 765 - compared to the other two utilising SD665 and SD675 respectively.

The big take-away for the TCL 10 series is price: the 10L is just €249/£199; the 10 Pro is €449/£399; the 10 5G €399/£399. That's affordable whichever way you look at it - especially the 5G handset.
