Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Series X in December without showing the rear of the console or detailing all its key features. Now, however, thanks to new photos from AMD and an Xbox executive, we may have a better idea of what to expect.

AMD, during its CES 2020 keynote, briefly showed the back of the Xbox Series X, seemingly revealing for the first time what it looks like and all the connectivity ports on board. We can see two HDMI ports, two USB-C ports, an Ethernet port, and optical out. There’s also a two-pin connector for power. It doesn't look like there are any USB-A ports on the back of the next-generation console, though there is one at the front.

That said, AMD has already released a statement admitting it faked the Xbox Series X photo. “The Xbox Series X imagery used during the AMD CES press conference was not sourced from Microsoft and does not accurately represent the design or features of the upcoming console,” explained an AMD spokesperson in a statement to the media. “They were taken from TurboSquid.com.”

It's unclear if TurboSquid, which makes 3D models, created its press render based on specifications from Microsoft. It’s a huge mixup for AMD, considering Microsoft hasn't revealed the rear of its console nor what sort of ports will be on tap. One has to wonder whether TurboSquid simply made up the imagery or if it has some sort of insight. We're contacting it for clarification.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer did, however, tweet out a real picture of the Xbox Series X's processor ahead of CES 2020 (he even made it his profile picture). It's a custom-designed CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture. The Xbox Series X will also feature an NVMe SSD, as well as support for 8K gaming, up to 120fps in games, ray tracing, and variable refresh rate support.
