Nikon has announced a duo of superzoom compact cameras that offer up to 60X optical zoom and 4K video recording.
The Nikon Coolpix A1000 is a compact with 35X optical zoom - a focal length of 24 to 840mm. Digital zoom can extend that up to 1,680mm.
It comes with an electronic viewfinder and is capable of capturing RAW images, with a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor on board. It has the more advanced video capture talents of the two new cameras, with up to 4K 30fps recording.
Its rear 3-inch touchscreen tilts and the camera is small enough to easily fit into a pocket.
The Nikon Coolpix B600 is more for those who want greater telephoto capabilities.
It has a 60X optical zoom lens, with a focal length of 24 to 1,440mm. Add Nikon's proprietary Dynamic Fine Zoom digital tech to that and it can extend that to 2,880mm.
The camera also utilises a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, but is limited to Full HD video recording (1080/30p). There is no mention of RAW compatibility with this model.
It too comes with a 3-inch touchscreen although it is fixed in this case.
The Nikon Coolpix A1000 will be available from the end of this month, going on same 31 January at a price of £409 (€469).
The Nikon Coolpix B600 will be priced at £329 (€379) and be available from February.
