Apple has once again been reported to release a new set of AirPods in 2019 with noise-cancelling. Barclays analysts have already made the claim back in March, but Bloomberg has now weighed in, citing sources familiar with the product.

Barclay's report said Apple will use physical analogue methods, as opposed to active noise cancellation, so we wouldn't expect them to be as effective as other noise-cancelling in-ear headphones, from the likes of Sony and Bose. However these pairs are around double the price of the current AirPods, but it's been claimed that the new pair will cost more than the £159 price tag for the current model.

Barclays adds that demand for the AirPods is still high and predicts Apple to sell around 30 million units this year, and suggests Apple could cut the price of the current model, in the build-up to a new pair being released.

Barclays' report didn't mention anything about water-resistance in the new pair, but Bloomberg has already said it will be the case and once again makes the claim in its latest report. However it will just be to protect against rain and sweat, rather than allowing you to go swimming in them. Bloomberg adds that Apple is trying to develops ways to increase the range of the new model so you can be further away from your iPhone and continue listening to music.

Bloomberg's report also says that Apple is looking at ways to integrate extra sensors such as a heart-rate monitor, but it's not clear if this will make it into the second-generation pair due for release next year. Also due for launch in the future is a pair of Apple-branded over-ear headphones. Bloomberg's report doesn't add much in the way of technical information, but says that the headphones are facing delays and are now due to launch in 2019 as well, a setback from the originally intended 2018 launch.

As ever, we'll wait until we get official information before saying what Apple will do with the next set of AirPods. Until then, we know we can expect a new wireless charging case for the current model, and Bloomberg has all-but-confirmed a new pair with "Hey, Siri" voice control will be added too.
