Several owners of GoPro's Karma drone reported problems flying since the start of the new year after finding their drones failing to find a GPS signal.

According to a report by The Verge, there have been multiple complaints online and via Twitter from around the world of owners have issues with the Karma. These issues are seemingly linked to GPS signal and the GLONASS satellite systems - a problem that has affected several other devices from other brands too.

Now, almost as soon as the discovery was made by owners, the manufacturer has announced that it will be rolling out a fix within the next week.

GoPro stated in a blog post that its engineering team have been testing a firmware fix which should solve the problem.

When describing exactly what went wrong, it almost sounds like the 2020 equivalent of the infamous millennium bug the world was scared of throughout the entirety of 1999.

The action cam maker states that as soon as the calendar ticked over to 2020, the World Magnetic Model - a system required to accurately position and calibrate the internal compass - experienced an issue, and stopped working properly, causing drones to be grounded.

Instructions will come along with the update when it's pushed out, and will enable users to fly their drones into 2020 and beyond.

This is not the first time that GoPro has had issues with the Karma drone. In 2016 the company was forced to recall it due to loss of power issues that saw drones falling out of the sky. Later the company decided to abandon drones altogether after it failed to get any traction.

This latest problem is certainly not ideal for those who did splash out for the drone all those months ago.

Thankfully, there appears to be a fix in hand, and it won't be long now before the consumers who bough one can fly their drones again.
