Philips has given its Fidelio SoundSphere speakers the minimising treatment, making them far more transportable while promising the same blockbusting sound.

The design remains more or less unchanged: we’ve got the same free-flowing tweeters at the top of each speaker, which means a more surround-sound vibe without interruption from any external interference. At least that’s the theory.

Philips describes its Fidelio DS6600 speakers as being designed for the PC. Granted it does have a USB connector, but with a 3.5mm audio jack as well there’s nothing to prevent you hooking up the speakers to a compatible smartphone or tablet.

Whereas the original Philips Fidelio SoundSphere had an additional iPod and iPhone dock, this has now been integrated into one of the speakers itself, thus helping keep its form factor to minimum proportions.

If the Philips DS6600 Fidelio SoundSphere speakers grab your fancy you can get hold of them from the Apple store now for £399.
