Onkyo has updated its remote Android app to enable the use of Spotify Premium on a variety of its AV receivers.

This news follows Onkyo's introduction of Spotify on its AV receivers back in March, where the online streaming service was controlled using an on-screen UI.

Now full control is available through the Android app. As with many services that have been bolted onto to existing hardware integration is key, and this move should ensure that Spotify Premium works seamlessly with the selected Onkyo products.

The receivers that will get the update include the TX-NR609/709/809/1009/3009/5009 and PR-SC5509.

Come the end of November Onkyo will also extend direct support for Spotify Premium via Onkyo’s Remote App for Android to the TX-NR509 network AV receiver, the HT-S6405 and HT-S9405THX AV receiver/speaker packages and also the TX-8050 network stereo receiver.

Around 99 per cent of Spotify Premium tracks have a 320kbps bit rate which should sit nicely to any of the receivers listed above.
