Rumours of a Google Pixel-branded smartwatch have been doing the rounds for years, but the most recent reports suggest we are a lot closer to a launch. It's thought the smartwatch will be announced at Google I/O in May and we've not only seen real-world images of it, but the device has been pictured on a wrist too and passed through Bluetooth certification.

Based on the rumours, the Pixel Watch will offer a round, premium design and it is expected to run on the Wear OS 3 platform that was designed by Google and Samsung.

Apple's most recently launched Watch Series 7 is its best effort yet, offering the same design as its predecessors but a bigger display, making full use of the space. There are also a number of sensors on board, though it sounds like these sensors will expand for the next model.

Rumours claim a body temperature sensor could make its way onto the Series 8 and there is talk of other sensors too, like blood pressure, though it might be we have to wait a little longer for the latter. It's not yet clear if the design will change at all, but there has been talk of a more rugged model better suited for those who like extreme sports.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in August 2021 and there have already been a couple of rumours surrounding the Galaxy Watch 5 and its variants.

It's been claimed the Galaxy Watch 5 could see a battery improvement and there has also been chatter about Samsung ditching the Classic naming and introducing a Pro model. There has also been a rumour of the rotating bezel being scrapped, which we would be sad to see.

OnePlus announced its first step into smartwatches with the OnePlus Watch in 2021, but a Nord-branded smartwatch has appeared in rumours more recently, with claims it could launch alongside the Nord 3 smartphone in the second half of 2022.

In terms of specs, it's said the Nord-branded smartwatch would borrow some features from the OnePlus Watch, including a colour touchscreen, heart rate monitor and SpO2 monitor. It's also expected it will offer sleep tracking, step tracking, smartphone notifications and music control. Pricing is claimed to be under 10,000 Indian rupees (around £100/$130).

Images of the Moto One, Moto G, and the Moto Watch appeared in leaks back in 2021, after allegedly being found in a sales presentation by consumer electronics licencee eBuyNow.

It was claimed the Moto One - a replacement for the Moto 360 - along with a square watch called Moto Watch would arrive in July 2021, while the Moto G smartwatch that also leaked, would come in June 2021. Neither happened in 2021 and we've seen nothing else about them so far in 2022 but you never know.
