Elgato has announced a couple of new smart home products that will embrace Apple's new HomeKit platform.

The Elgato Avea smart lighting system will challenge the likes of Philips Hue, with its smart LED bulb.

Compatible with iOS, the £39.99 Avea bulb won't need a bridge to connect to your router, so is relatively fuss-free, using Bluetooth for its connection.

The Avea will give you mood lighting, let you change the lighting style for what you're doing, as well as offer a wake-up function. There will be seven scenes, as well as colours, available through the accompanying app.

In addition, Elgato has also announced Eve, a home monitoring system. This will be comprised of sensors designed to track your energy consumption and report back on your home environment.

Again it will be iOS compatible - with Elgato saying it's designed for HomeKit integration - and it will report data on air quality, temperature, humidity, as well as energy and water consumption.

There's no word on pricing for Elgato Eve yet.

The new Elgato products have been launched at IFA 2014 in Berlin.
