For the second time in six months BT Openworld, the broadband arm of BT, has announced that it will be increasing the speed of its Broadband Basic plan free of charge. This time the increase will be from 1Mb to 2Mb.

The announcement will see users jump from 1Mb to 2Mb at no extra cost. New customers on Broadband Basic will receive up to 2Mb as standard.

The race to offer faster connection speeds as increased drastically over the past couple of months with 8Mb slowing becoming the upper tier of broadband connection speeds.

At the beginning of the month Be Unlimited announced that it would launch a 24Mbps service in the UK by the end of the year.
