Sky has released an update for its Sky Glass TV and newly launched Sky Stream puck, adding several new features.

And there are more to come before the end of 2022, which we've had detailed alongside the ones now available on your TV and/or streaming device.

Your Sky Glass and Sky Stream puck should receive the over-the-air updates automatically, so here are the major new features you can expect now and in the near future:

Available now (from 17 November 2022)

Here are the changes available to Sky Glass and Sky Stream OTA now.

Bluetooth connectivity

Sky Glass is now Bluetooth-enabled that adds, among other things, the ability to use wireless headphones with the TV.

What's more, you will be able to use Bluetooth headphones and the internal speakers at the same time, so those that are hard of hearing can have a different volume setting to other viewers.

Playlist moving and continue watching rail

The playlist rail has moved. In fact, it's no longer really a rail at all.

Instead, it has been moved into the top bar alongside "TV Shows", "Movies", "Sport", etc. You can access the Playlist page by clicking on it to see more options.

The previous rail has been replaced by "continue watching", which hosts all of the shows you are either partway through, or the next episodes of series you have started already. That way you can get to one of the most used aspects of the current playlist rail more quickly.

Continue watching also includes programming from other apps you subscribe to, not just Netflix, Sky and terrestrial TV. Amazon's Prime Video service is one of the first to be added.

Most recent episode first

Shows added to a playlist now show the most recent episode first, if you've already started to watch the series. That way you won't have to scroll through a chronological list of programmes before you get to the latest episode.

There's also a more recent rail at the top of the new playlist section.

Still to come (before end of 2022)

These changes are coming over the next month or so.

Playlist profiles

This much-requested feature is coming "really soon". It will add individual profiles to the playlist section, so that different family members can have a filtered playlist just for them. There will also be a general shared playlist, which will contain all of the content tagged by the entire family in the one place.

Voice commands

New, simple voice commands are coming to jump you straight into your content. For example, you can just say "play Brassic" and the latest episode will start automatically, rather than the system take you to its content page first. "Continue Brassic," will pick up where you left off - that sort of thing.

Find my remote

A find my remote feature will allow you to ask your Sky Glass where the remote is (by voice) and it will make a sound so you can locate it.

New 4K HDR channels

There will be new channels dedicated to UHD HDR content added to the line-up.

Sky Glass picture performance

As we revealed in October, we were treated to a picture performance demo by Sky, whereby we saw a from-the-ground-up software update that greatly improves the way the locally dimmed backlight works on the TV. This enhances contrast especially - the difference between the dark and light portions of the screen.

It's no exaggeration to suggest that it could make a massive, positive difference to the viewing experience across sports, movies and general viewing.
