It has taken a while and approximately $70 million worth of reshoots and new edits, but Snyder has finally realised his original vision.

So here are the ways you can watch it in the UK and US, along with a bit of an explainer as to why it exists in the first place.

Where to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League in the UK

Sky is showing the Zack Syder cut on Sky Cinema in the UK. That means Sky Q and Now customers with a Sky Cinema subscription can watch it on the Sky Premiere channel or on demand.

Where to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League in the US

Warner's own streaming service, HBO Max, exclusively hosts the movie in the US.

Is the Zack Snyder cut available on Blu-ray?

The great news for those without HBO Max, Sky or Now TV, Warner Bros informed bluray-disc.de in Germany that it will be released on both standard and 4K Blu-ray on 27 May 2021.

However, at over four hours long, the movie will be spread over two discs. It is also said that will feature Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision (on the 4K version).

What to expect from the Zack Snyder cut and why it exists in the first place

Anyone who has seen the 2017 theatrical release of Justice League will know that, while it's a passable action film, it doesn't hold a candle on any of the Avengers movies.

And, while it is 120 minutes long, it does feel choppy in places, baggy in others. In short, it seems to lack something and the characters often feel under-explored and two-dimensional.

That can mainly be attributed to the fact that director Snyder had to leave the project halfway through due to a family tragedy. He was replaced by Joss Whedon but the director of The Avengers had a very different vision for the film, so it results in something of a mish-mash of ideas.

Prior to Whedon being brought in, Synder had created his own cut of the movie without effects and other finishing touches. And, in 2019, some of the movie's stars campaigned for this cut to be finished and seen. A petitiion with over 180,000 signatures was also delivered to Warner to demand the Synder cut was released. Now, in 2021, it has been.

The new version is twice the length of the theatrical edition - running at 242 minutes. Better get yourself an extra large tub of popcorn.

It also features plenty of reshot scenes, new characters, and a different ending. None of the Whedon shot footage has made it into Synder's finished version.

Critics, on the whole, have been glowing about Zack Snyder's Justice League - a marked change for a film given 40 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes originally. The new cut has, so far, received 78 per cent from critics alone.

Why is Zack Synder's Justice League in 4:3?

As well as completely recut, the movie is now presented in a 4:3 ratio. This is because it was originally filmed by Snyder for an IMAX presentation, which generally uses a similar 1.43:1 aspect ratio rather than the 16:9 widescreen format we have at home.

If the finished Snyder cut was to match our home screens, compromises would have to have been made on framing.

Deborah Snyder - the director's wife and producer of Justice League - explained the choice of aspect ratio to Decider:

"The film was originally shot that way. You know, don’t forget it was intended for the theatrical release, and it was intended to have an IMAX release. But now that it was on HBO Max, Zack didn’t want to change the aspect ratio, because everything was framed that way. And it’s also, I just think it’s just so unique.

"You’re getting so much of the picture, you’re seeing a lot more. If we then made the decision to just chop it off, we would be losing part of the frame. So it was really important to maintain the aspect ratio because that’s how it was originally intended to be. That’s how it was shot. That’s how the visual effects were done."
