Samsung has followed up its Galaxy Watch with a new smartwatch aimed at the same users who originally loved its Gear Sport.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is a stripped down version of the company's main wearable.

It has a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 360 x 360 resolution but, unlike the main Watch, does not feature Samsung's proprietary bezel ring.

What it does come with, however, is a simple, neat design and IP68 waterproofing down to 50 metres, making it suited for those who live active lifestyles - hence the name.

Inside, the Tizen-based watch is run on Samsung's own dual-core Exynos 9110 chipset, has 768MB of RAM and comes with 4GB of storage space.

Sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and heart rate monitor. Bixby voice control is on board too.

The battery is 230mAh, which should last at least a whole day, and it features WPC wireless charging. You will even be able to charge it on the back of a Samsung Galaxy S10+, with the company's new reverse charging functionality.

Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi connectivity are present, but no SIM sadly.

It works with Android or iOS.

Measurements are 40 x 39.5 x 39.5 x 10.5mm and it weighs 25g. It and will come in rose gold, black, silver and green (although the latter is not coming to the UK) and is available on pre-order now for a UK price of £229.

Also announced during Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event were the Galaxy S10 smartphones, Galaxy Buds and other devices and accessories.
