A new Yoga has joined the ranks of Lenovo's flexible laptop range, bringing mobile connectivity to the fore. Say hello to the C640, a portable package complete with built-in 4G LTE modem.

Our quick take

The Lenovo Yoga C640 is all about 4G LTE connectivity. It's a sensible balance of size and weight, thanks to the 13-inch screen footprint, while the 360-degree hinge provides additional flexibility to use-cases.

There might not be the fancy hinge of the top-end C940 model, but with strong specs, purported strong battery life, and a solid design, there's a lot to appeal if you're in the market for an always-connected laptop.

FORAGAINST

Design & Screen

  • Finish: Iron Grey only
  • 13-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD touchscreen
  • Measures: 306.8 x 204.48 x 16.1mm / Weighs: 1.3kgs
  • 2x USB 3.1, 1x USB-C, 1x 3.5mm jack, dedicated charging port

With its focus on on-the-go work and play, the C640 is built around a 13-inch screen, making it a little smaller than the C740 and top-end C940 models, both of which come in 14-inch formats (the latter 15.6-inch in some regions, but not the UK).

While the screen footprint keeps things nice and compact, Lenovo hasn't gone overboard in trying to make this the smallest laptop in the world, in the interests of balancing battery life and performance needs. The 16.1mm thickness and sub-1.3kg weight make for a sensible balance to chuck in a bag.

Core to any Yoga product is its flexible hinge design. While the top-end C940 goes with a Dolby Atmos soundbar hinge, the C640, given that its further down the range, opts for a more classic two-part hinge. It's still got the 360-degree flexibility, though, meaning the laptop can be positioned in typical form or folded into 'tent', 'stand' and 'tablet' orientations - great for presentations and Windows 10's Tablet Mode.

A variety of ports ensure compatibility with older USB-A and a newer USB-C, with the latter not being blocked by a power cable when charging as there's also a dedicated charger. Handy.

Performance

  • Claims up to 20 hours battery life
  • 4G LTE wireless network connectivity
  • 10th Gen Intel Core i processor (up to Core i7)
  • 8GB / 16GB RAM, 128GB / 256GB / 512GB SSD options

The real reason to want a C640 is for its built-in micro SIM and 4G LTE connectivity. Although we've been unable to test this, ultimately the goal is to have access to the internet wherever you are - providing greater productivity than tapping away on your phone.

As the build isn't wafer thin, there's enough battery on board to keep things ticking along too, with up to a claimed 20 hours life. While we doubt it'll be easy to achieve that with on-the-go browsing and beyond, recent Lenovo laptops have deftly handled battery longevity.

The C640 also utilises Intel's 10th Gen Core i processors, with the i3, i5 and i7 available depending on how much power you need and, well, how much you want to spend. Our advice here is to aim for the middle, as the i7's power will eat away at battery life all the more.

To recap

There might not be the fancy hinge of the top-end C940 model, but with strong specs, purported strong battery life, and a solid design, there's a lot to appeal if you're in the market for an always-connected laptop.
