Apple is now rolling out the iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 software updates for iPhone and iPad, respectively.

The updates include the new App Tracking Transparency feature, which lets you choose whether apps can track your activity “across other companies’ apps and websites” for advertising reasons. You'll see a pop-up when apps share your activity. Both updates also include a ton of new inclusive emoji.

A cool feature for iOS 14.5, specifically, is that, if you own an Apple Watch and are wearing it, you can set your iPhone to unlock without requiring Face ID or a passcode. This is meant to make it easier for you to access your phone while wearing a face mask. But you'll need to install watchOS 7.4 to use the feature.

Other new features include the ability to watch Apple Fitness+ workouts on a TV with AirPlay 2, a redesigned Apple Podcasts app with subscriptions, support for the new game controllers for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and all iPhone 12 models now support 5G connectivity in dual-SIM mode in more countries. Plus, Apple will no longer default to a "female voice" for its Siri assistant. Instead, you’ll be asked to choose a preferred voice.

The iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 updates can be downloaded over the air for free. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
